SCIENCE MUXIRUM
METHODOLOGY USED IN THIS PROJECT FOR THE ANALYSIS OF KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION AND ITS TRAJECTORY IN THE COLLECTIVE TERRITORIES OF QUILOMBOLA PEOPLES, INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, AND TRADITIONAL COMMUNITIES. MUXIRUM IS THE NAME GIVEN TO ONE OF THE AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES OF QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITIES IN MATO GROSSO. THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD COMES FROM TUPI-GUARANI AND REFERS TO GROUP WORK, MUTIRÃO. THE MUXIRUM PHILOSOPHY HAS GUIDED THE RESEARCH AND STUDY PROCESSES OF THE ANCESTRAL AGRICULTURE PROJECT.
Traditional Quilombola Agricultural Systems
Project initiated in 2023 - ongoing. It conducts a Diagnosis of Quilombola Agriculture in three Brazilian territories and biomes, aiming to identify the main characteristics of agricultural biodiversity and its relationship with food systems and climate justice. It is being carried out in conjunction with the Anti-Racist Scientific Alliance and CONAQ. It is linked to the author's doctoral thesis.
Food Without Borders: Food Confluences - Brazil/Bolivia
This project, initiated in 2024, aims to identify, map, and provide training on converging food cultures in the border region of Mato Grosso, encompassing the Brazil/Bolivia territory. Diagnosis and training are being conducted in the territories of traditional, indigenous, and quilombola peoples and communities.
Quilombola Writing: Our History, Our Writing
The project brought together quilombola women from Mato Grosso who, through meetings and exchanges on knowledge production, identity, and anti-racist struggle, made writing a tool for fighting and influencing a racist society that tries to silence us daily. The project was supported by the Mato Grosso State Secretariat of Culture and will include an ebook to be released in October 2024. It will be available here soon!
Book: Racism and Agri-food Systems
The book, organized by Fran Paula and published by CESE - Ecumenical Coordination of Services and Support of Ibirapitanga, is the result of the confluence of diverse social groups from traditional, indigenous, and quilombola communities in the Brazilian Cerrado. It presents narratives denouncing racism within these territories and highlighting ancestral practices of living in and conserving the Cerrado. It serves as a methodological and political tool in the anti-racist struggle in Brazil.
Diagnosis of Quilombola Agriculture
Published in 2022 by CONAQ, this publication compiles a diagnosis of Quilombola agriculture in seven Brazilian states within the Caatinga and Cerrado biomes, with a methodological description for surveys in Quilombola communities and key demands for their strengthening.
Quilombola Peace
Inspired by Beatriz Nascimento's concept of Quilombola Peace, Fran Paula seeks, through the oral traditions of her Quilombola people from various regions of Brazil, to capture the perception of Quilombola peace today. In a context of threats to territories and ways of life, what are the possible paths to peace?
Drawing on the experiences of Brazilian quilombos and in dialogue with other Afro-descendant territories across the Americas, this article proposes Afro-Diasporic Agricultural Systems (SAAFROs) as a political and civilizational category of the African diaspora.
